Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I’m fundraising for Epilepsy Ireland to support the 45,000 people living with epilepsy in Ireland.

Epilepsy is caused by a discharge of electrical energy in the brain, but the way this affects each person is unique. With your help, Epilepsy Ireland can provide support tailored to the needs of each person and family living with epilepsy.

Your support will ensure that people with epilepsy and their families receive the information, advice, and support they need through a network of 11 Community Resource Officers. You will ensure public awareness of epilepsy is improved and stigma and misunderstanding is alleviated. You will help fund vital research projects to find new ways to manage and treat epilepsy and reduce its impact on people’s lives.

I hope you can help me by making a donation. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely and are received directly by Epilepsy Ireland.

My Epilepsy Journey

Monday 24th Mar
I first developed epilepsy when I was three years old after having a unexpected epileptic seizure at home. Since then I have faced a number of challenges, from managing seizures that occur unexpectedly to being prescribed different medications with various side effects.

Despite my epilepsy being well controlled in recent years despite this I still have to take extra precautions in my daily life this involves taking my medication at the right times and regularly visiting my neurologist and avoiding stressful situations. I have often had seizures infront of friends and family members.
Despite this I still feel that epilepsy is not as widely understood as other conditions.

This is why I encourage people to talk more openly about it. Knowing what to do if someone has a seizure, what medications they are taking, the triggers and lack of control and memory lapse afterwards.
"The one thing I do not let epilepsy do is define me as I am determined to help others like me who have epilepsy ".

One of the ways I decided to help others like me was to take part in epilepsy irelands 24 hour squat challenge, which is running from March 24th to 28th . With the help of social media and sharing my story I hope to raise awareness about the condition.

Your donations any aamount, big or small, will be greatly aappreciated Thank you,
Leah Moriarty.
