Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I’m fundraising for Epilepsy Ireland to support the 45,000 people living with epilepsy in Ireland.

Epilepsy is caused by a discharge of electrical energy in the brain, but the way this affects each person is unique. With your help, Epilepsy Ireland can provide support tailored to the needs of each person and family living with epilepsy.

Your support will ensure that people with epilepsy and their families receive the information, advice, and support they need through a network of 11 Community Resource Officers. You will ensure public awareness of epilepsy is improved and stigma and misunderstanding is alleviated. You will help fund vital research projects to find new ways to manage and treat epilepsy and reduce its impact on people’s lives.

I hope you can help me by making a donation. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely and are received directly by Epilepsy Ireland.

Why I am fundraising for Epilepsy Ireland Part 2

Monday 24th Mar

A week or so after we were discharged from the hospital, we needed a new kettle and we decided to take the 1st trip out of our house and all go to the shop together. We went to a well known big electrical appliance store. When we were there my worst fear came true as my daughter had a seizure in the store. My partner asked a man who worked there if there was an office or somewhere we could bring her for some privacy and to let her come out of the seizure. The man was clearly freaked out and asked 'what do you expect me to do?'. We said we will look after her we just don't want to be in the middle of a busy shop, we want some privacy for our child. He brought to the staff canteen. My partner said we may need to ring an ambulance if the seizure doesn't stop and he told us we would have to ring them ourselves. After 5 minutes, she came out of the seizure herself thankfully and we didn't need to give her Buccalam so no need for an ambulance. The staff member came back and asked us if we were finished using the room as it was nearly staff break time. He made us feel like freaks and that we wouldn't get out of the place quick enough. Not once did he ask if she was OK. It was a horrible experience and really increased my fear of bringing my daughter anywhere incase we encountered a similar reaction again.
I feel that our experience would have been very different if this staff member had some training or knowledge about epilepsy which is another reason I want to do this fundraiser so no other family has to feel that way when out in public.

Why I am fundraising for Epilepsy Ireland

In October 2024, my daughter got sick and was diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis. As a result of this, she now has epilepsy. When we were discharged from the hospital, I got in touch with Epilepsy Ireland and one of the community resource officers reached out and has been such a wonderful support to me and my family. We did a zoom call with them and our extended family to learn about epilepsy and types of seizures and the rescue medication so they all feel a lot more confident and know what to do if my daughter has a seizure. It has been a fantastic resource and we are so grateful for them.
