Daras diagnosis

Wednesday 25th Feb
This March, I will be walking to raise funds for Epilepsy Ireland, a cause that has become very personal to my family. 

We never thought this would be part of our parenting journey, on the 12th of January 2025, our darling Dara was diagnosed with epilepsy, which for him presents as absence seizures. It has opened up a world we knew very little about. It is all very new to us, juggling medication, appointment, school, work and life in general. Every day we are learning. 
Like many people we did not realise how varied epilepsy can be and how it differs for each individual. 
A huge thanks to our GP for taking our concerns serious and sending us to the emergency department for admission and immediate tests. We attended UHL on the 9th of January, Dara was admitted and diagnosed on the 12th of January 2026. If we waited for referral letters to be sent back and fort. We could be still waiting. Every intervention will lead to Dara living a normal life. It is still early days but we will get there and Dara is taking it all in his stride. The extra electricity in his brain is his super power and he is a little fighter.

There is still alot of misunderstanding around epilepsy, especially around the different types of seizures and how they look. 
Through this fundraiser we hope to raise awareness and funds to support families navigating diagnosis and to help people feel understood and supported.
